Cattle prices continue to rise

With numbers increasing across the state with 8000 yarded at Dublin and 20,000 at Naracoorte, the lamb market remained firm to slightly easier on heavy and trade lambs at $7.50 ‑ $7.80kg cwt.

Restocker demand trended slightly dearer, with lighter lambs at $110 and forward lambs at $130 ‑ $150.

Mutton prices remained strong, with prices quoted at 520 ‑ 580c/kg cwt.

Light to medium weight ewes are making extremely good money, with prices at Dublin seen at $120 ‑ $140 per head with restocker demand pushing the trade.

Cattle numbers increased this week at local markets, with an extra Victorian order on heavy younger cattle adding to a continued rise in prices across all categories.

Restocker and feeder competition was again strong to the point where they outbid the trade buyers.

Light weight and medium weight vealer steers sold between 400 ‑ 456c/kg on the back of restocker buying.

Cows posted another increase of 10 ‑ 15c/kg.

Recent feature sheep sales at Lameroo and via AuctionsPlus (Keith Merino Breeders) have seen quality 1.5 year‑old Merino ewes consistently above $300.

Older ewes (4.5 ‑ 6.5 year‑old) have also seen spirited buyer activity, making $230 ‑ $270.
