Poll Herefords in restocker demand as cattle numbers increase

With a consignment of pastoral and mostly Poll Hereford cattle from the Coober Pedy area prompting spirited competition from restockers, cattle numbers increased significantly this week.

Agents offered 525 live weight cattle and 35 open auction calves, with quality generally fair to good and prices remaining firm to slightly dearer across the market.

Lamb prices also lifted across the board by $10, with quality quite good amid the 7000 yarded at Dublin.

Lambs onto feed in forward condition weighing 36 ‑ 40kg represented the best value buying, averaging $125.

Lighter lambs were dearer in comparison, with trade weight lambs fetching $132 ‑ $150 and heavy weights $150 ‑ $172.

Mutton prices remained firm across most markets, sitting at around $5/kg cwt.

Light ewes were bought at $90 ‑ $110, while medium weight ewes hovered around the $125 ‑ $145 mark.

Heavy mutton made up to $180.
